SafeScript solution wins at AIIA National iAwards

The “SafeScript” Real-Time Prescription Monitoring (RTPM) solution that Fred IT Group (our Joint Venture partner) developed for their client, Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Victoria, won the award in the category of Infrastructure & Platforms Innovation of the Year at the Australian Information Industry Association’s (AIIA) National iAwards on Thursday, 29th of August 2019.

SafeScript is one of Fred’s and Telstra Health’s great successes, partnering with the Victorian Government, clinicians and pharmacists to help reduce the incidence of opioid and other controlled substance abuse, with the mission to help prevent avoidable deaths.

SafeScript allows the transmission of prescription records for some high-risk medicines in real-time to a centralised database. This database is then accessible by doctors and pharmacists during a consultation.

This prestigious award reflects the work of Fred IT’s highly skilled team. In the first nine months of rollout and uptake, SafeScript has already delivered over 1.3 million alerts to clinicians in Victoria and has warned of potential clinical risk for over 57,000 patients.

Penington Institute’s annual Australia Overdose Report, released in late August 2019, showed a continued increase in the death rate for accidental overdose, with 1,612 deaths reported in 2017. The good work being delivered through SafeScript is helping to address this tragic death toll.

Fred IT CEO Paul Naismith said that while he is pleased to see due recognition of the innovation delivered with this platform, he is most proud of the contribution to medication safety that SafeScript is delivering to at-risk Victorians, and now via the National NDE (National Data Exchange) solution to all Australians.
