Sunday 28 May 2023 is LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day.

This significant day brings attention to the unique challenges and experiences faced by people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer, and experience domestic violence.

As an organsiation, Telstra Health is committed to ending domestic violence. We pledge to identify and respond to the needs of LBGTQ staff members and individuals who identify as LBGTQ.

Workplaces, friends and family members play an important role in preventing and responding to domestic violence. We encourage you to make your own pledge (find ideas and sign up here) and encourage you to wear rainbow on the day! If we all work together, we can put an end to the violence and fear in the LGBTQ community.

Stereotypes, fear of discrimination and limited information can create barriers for LBGTQ individuals to access appropriate domestic violence support. With 62% of LBGTQ people having experienced abuse in one or more of their relationships*, continued focus and support is needed.

If you or someone you know identifies as LGBTQ and are affected by domestic, family and sexual violence, 1800RESPECT is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can refer you to a representative who has expertise in the area — call 1800 737 732 or chat online (www.1800respect.org.au).
