Professor Christine Bennett

As part of our Telstra Health Speaker Series, a leading health policy expert in Australia Professor Christine Bennett AO, discussed her distinguished career and learnings from this with the Telstra Health team.

The event marked an extraordinary opportunity to learn more about the importance of connected care in healthcare and aged care, and to better understand the Australian heath care system and Telstra Health’s role within the sector.

Professor Bennett has had a distinguished career and is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Head of Campus, Sydney at the University of Notre Dame Australia.  Prior to this appointment, Professor Bennett was Dean of the School of Medicine, Sydney, a role she was appointed to in May 2011. Throughout her career, Professor Bennett has held a number of significant professional roles including Group Executive and Chief Medical Officer for MBF and then BUPA, CEO of Research Australia, Managing Director of Total Health Enterprise Ltd, Partner in Health and Life Sciences for KPMG Australia, CEO of Westmead Hospital and Community Health Services, General Manager for the Royal Hospital for Women and Head of Planning in NSW Health.

With such a varied career history within healthcare, aged care and academia, Professor Bennett shared some of her key insights in working across both private and public sectors. She shared her perspective on the ways in which digital health has not just facilitated reform of health and care systems, but how it is helping to transform and improve access, quality, efficiency and outcomes in health and care across Australia and beyond.

As a mother of five children, Professor Bennett also discussed how she finds balance between family life and work, providing practical advice and personal insights for the Telstra Health team.
