The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety’s Final Report recommended that all Australian aged care providers use an electronic medication management system to help reduce the number of preventable adverse medication events, and medication prescribing and dispensing errors.

In response, the 2021-22 Federal Budget pledged $45.4 million to help eligible providers cover the costs of adopting an electronic medication management system to support the introduction of electronic National Residential Medication Charts (eNRMC). The Department is currently defining the payment structure and mechanisms and will provide information about how providers can access this funding once it becomes available.

Residential aged care providers who do not currently have an electronic medication management system are now looking to find a solution that will support the introduction of eNRMC before the adoption deadline in June 2023.

One source of truth and best of breed solutions
Telstra Health’s residential aged care suite combines clinical, care, funding, communication, medication, administration and reporting capabilities to enable one source of truth across residential aged care.

Our scalable, intuitive Medication Management software enables providers to choose pharmacy partners and Dose Administration Aids, has offline capabilities, and includes comprehensive reporting features.

Our medication administration app, MedMobile, helps to reduce risks associated with medication-related errors and signature emissions by creating a single, accessible electronic medication profile for each resident – complete with helpful prompts and reminders for busy staff.

Electronically recording medications can save up to 30 minutes per medication round, allowing care staff more time to devote to delivering personalised resident care.

Introducing MedPoint: Your electronic medication chart solution
Telstra Health’s upcoming MedPoint solution will further digitise the medication management process for residential aged care providers and support the introduction of Electronic National Residential Medication Charts (eNRMC).

Benefits of MedPoint:

  • Aged care providers no longer need to send medication charts to the pharmacy.
  • Pharmacists can view medication changes via the electronic chart.
  • Information from Telstra Health’s clinical software flows through to MedPoint to create a single, connected view for aged care staff, GPs and pharmacists.
